Great Carbon Valley signs MoU with Beyond Captur to launch Kenya’s first electrochemical Direct Air Capture (DAC) pilot project

Our vision is to design, build and launch a series of direct air capture and storage (DAC+S) anchored green industrial hubs across the Great Rift Valley, capturing at least 1 million tonnes of CO2 annually by 2030.
We’re playing a strategic role in meeting the growing demand for high-quality, permanent carbon removal as a climate-positive solution and stimulating the growth of a regional green economy ecosystem across Africa.
We’re launching 15+ green industry projects by 2030 to unlock climate-positive development for Africa. We’re utilizing green energy infrastructure to power the expansion of our DAC+S hubs and turnkey industrial parks specialized in energy-intensive green industry applications.
Sectors of interest include green hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and direct use cases of geothermal heat, i.e., food drying and processing.
Our mission is to seek and partner with a network of actors, including energy concession holders, direct air capture technology ventures, carbon storage providers, green industries, and project financiers, to develop Africa’s leading renewable energy-powered DAC+S installation hubs and green manufacturing industrial parks along the vast Great Rift Valley.
The Great Rift Valley, part of which runs in East Africa, is an active continental rift zone that boasts a wealth of natural resources ideal for a DAC+S ecosystem to take root in and thrive.
The region is home to significant untapped renewable energy potential including world-class solar, wind, and geothermal energy resources suitable for powering energy-intensive industries in a green manner. It is also characterized by large volumes of continental flood basalt deposits, a mineral well-suited for carbon storage. It harbours ideal sub-surface temperatures and water resources necessary to develop a vibrant carbon removal industry.
We truly believe that by transforming these assets into operational infrastructure, we can position East Africa as a globally competitive hub for climate action.
